Arcdevice infoI have a Dell Dimension 520, with vista premium. Got it with 350Gb hard drive. Still under warrenty
3 weeks ago I started to lose 10-15 free GB from my OS C hard drive. Each day the free GB would go up and down (with no major changes in the operation of the computer.) It is now down to 15 free GB on the C drive. It was 190 three weeks ago. Dell says it must be a spyware or malware but they can't find it. When I open my C drive I see ArcDevice Info, unknown to me, but someone at my hospital said this may be constantly backing up your back-ups and causing the free GB's to do down. Anyone have any thoughts on how to stop this vicious cycle of losing my free GB's from OS (C). I'm not sure about your problem Mr. Lefleur, but I wanted to let you know
that you posted within a pretty old post. You may want to repost in a new thread so that it is more visible to people that might be able to help you out. The only reason I saw your post is that I am the originator of the thread you posted in and got a notification that a reply had been posted in my thread. I hope someone helps you out! Show quoteHide quote news:2008111965744richard.lefleur@nyumc.org... Did you check into the backup state of affairs, then? If there could be some >I have a Dell Dimension 520, with vista premium. I couldn't find much out about ArcDevice from a quick check on the web. Is this a file or a folder? How big is it, and does the size change? Did anything else happen, start happening, or did you make any changes to your system three weeks ago? I'd recommend installing Agent Ransack (http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack) and searching for new, large files. I don't know about its compatibility with Vista, though - this is an XP newsgroup, so you may also benefit from reposting your question in one of the Vista groups. If you do, you should also start your own, new thread there. Or, for a more visual display of the sizes of your folders and files, try SequoiaView freeware - http://w3.win.tue.nl/nl/onderzoek/onderzoek_informatica/visualization/sequoiaview//. The site says this *does* work under Vista. Also, try a "chkdsk /r", or its Vista equivalent, on your C:\-drive, in case the system is misreporting its free space. Lastly, I'd suggest that you perform your own malware checks - Spybot, SuperAntispyware, MalwareBytes and AdAware spring to mind, as well as your current, up to date anti-virus program. (You *do* have one of those...?)
