Strange problemPentium 3 796 MHz 512 MB ram Windows XP Pro sp3 2 Maxtor hd's Lite On DVD burner HP 2 burner I am selling the PC & want to remove my backup hd to use in my new pc. I also removed the HP cd burner. I put the original Cd drive in it's place. ( i did'nt have a plate to cover the hole ) Now i tried to start the PC & it went to the Windows XP logo page & sat there. It would'nt load. I rebooted & looked at the screen & it said Mouse Reconogized. & keboard Reconogized. I done see my HD listed. What could have went wrong ? I tried a new cable on the HD & it still won't start. Since you removed one of your hard drives you may have to reset the
jumper on the remaining drive. Try cable select first, then master. Make sure that the red stripe on the ribbon cable is facing the white molex power connector on the drive. Try booting again with logging enabled. It may give clue what went wrong. Better if you post it also. Also try booting in safe-mode if that works. If it does, at least one driver is causing it.
