Problems installing Windows Components!the component and clicked next when an error message popped up: Setup cannot copy the file staxmen.dl_. Copy files from: C:\i386 Apparently all the files in the target folder are in the compressed format (*.dl_), this is the same format as the files in the corresponding folder on the original XP Pro service pack 2, CD. If I try to skip the file, the very next file comes up with the same "can't copy" error. This presents the following questions: shouldn't the installer automatically convert the files in question, or should the files be converted by some other software, prior to installation and if so what software would know which of the .dl_ files to convert for a given component installation? I had this problem before with a different component and never found a resolution. Does anyone know why the "Window Component" installer is failing, and have a fix? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, X

Just a thought; it caught me once that way. I'm simply using the "Add/Remove" utility in the control panel.

You may receive the "Setup cannot copy the file staxmem.dll" error message when you try to install IIS on a computer that is running Windows XP Professional with SP2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894351 ju.c Show quoteHide quote "xytsrm" <xyt***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9AFE034B-12FD-4124-BCD6-964E095FCEA0@microsoft.com... > I'm simply using the "Add/Remove" utility in the control panel. > > X. > > > "Twayne" wrote: > >> > I'm trying to install the "Internet Information Services (IIS)". This is apparently the exact problem I'm having. I followed the instructions in the link you provided. Apparently the database file secedit is ok, so I went to "Method 2". Everthing went fine up to the last step: "xpsp2 /integrate:Drive:\winxp" (which I assume should read xpsp2 /integrate:C:\winxp for my system. After changing the prompt to drive to D: (as instructed) and trying to run xpsp2 I received the following error - 'xpsp2' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I tried searching for "xpsp2" on both drive C: and the CD_Drive D: without success. The closest return on D: was a file called xpsp2res.dl_, but this is obviously not an executable. Any suggestions as to how to proceed? That is, it's the service pack you downloaded. ju.c Show quoteHide quote "xytsrm" <xyt***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:076CA202-2ED5-4268-A70D-D6F84A9FDA47@microsoft.com... > Thanks ju.c, > > This is apparently the exact problem I'm having. > > I followed the instructions in the link you provided. All the files were downloaded - in their *.dl_ format. The last step is to integrate the files into the the OS (xpsp2/integrate:C:\winxp). But, when I go to perform the last step namely xpsp2/integrate:C:\winxp as per the instructions I get 'xpsp2' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." Here are the last instructions: 5. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: CD_Drive: Note In this command, CD_Drive is the CD drive where the Windows XP Professional SP2 CD is located. 6. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: xpsp2 /integrate:Drive:\winxp 7. Install IIS. 8. When you are prompted to locate the Windows XP Professional installation files, type Drive:\winxp, and then press ENTER. Step 6. failed as I indicated. x.
