overriding a white screen on the desktop

I'm having trouble changing the desktop. I was using Webshots (have been for
a couple years) and just changed one of the pictures; next thing I know I
have a totally white screen OVERTOP the photo. I know it's overtop because I
see it when I shut down or start up, but as soon as the icons come up, the
screen goes totally white. Going to the control panel to change the desktop
doesn't work--it's frozen and won't allow any change whatsoever. I haven't
downloaded anything, virus checks all fine, security wall up...

I'm using Windows XP home edition.

Anyone have an idea?

perhaps you have an image as an active desktop?

control panel> display options> desktop tab> customize desktop button>
web tab> make sure everything is unchecked in the list (web pages) there
tell me if this solves the problem, if not tell me so I can think of
something else

Hi there, and thanks for trying!  Have tried this and went through again to
make sure, but still no go.  Nothing is checked on that web tab-- and the two
boxes under that heading are: My Current Home page and Internet Explorer
Channel Bar (both unchecked. (I must have ghosts in the machine!) Any other
ideas?

I eat vista
go to this site: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

scroll down to line number 142 but look on the RIGHT column where it says:

ALLOW WALLPAPER BACKGROUND CHANGES... (the link leads to this file)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/wallpaperenable.reg

Download it and double click on that reg file and do a restart...

this should fix your problem.. tell me please if it does..

1. Open Control Panel, double-click Display.
2. Click the Desktop tab, and choose "Customize Desktop".
3. Select the "Web" tab
4. Delete all the items except "My current Home page"
5. Uncheck "My current Home page"

To whom and about what are you talking?
FYI this is NOT a "chat room", what you are doing is using a horrible web
interface to post to a global Newsgroup.
Please read the following:

Thank you.
