Opening JPGs in PaintShopPro

So far I've been unable to resolve this long-standing problem via the
PaintShop Pro groups/forums, so I wonder if anyone here can offer any
suggestions please?

I have the JPG extension associated with IrfanView and that works
fine. But sometimes I want to open a JPG in PaintShop Pro 8, for
editing not mere viewing. But, from an Explorer window, using Open
With > PSP8 opens another instance of PSP8 if it's already running,
instead of another window inside the existing instance. And it's very
slow doing that.

Yet other methods of opening the JPG from PSP8 are OK, such as using
File > Open, or dragging the JPG from an Explorer window.

Anyone have any insights into this please?

If it's relevant I do also have a utility called OpenExpert.

I'm using PSP X and have also had 7, 9 and X1 which I removed.
That's "how it is" with PSP up to X, I think it is. I can't recall
whether 9 was that way or not, for sure.  Even X "looks" like it's
opening a new instance but it doesn't.  Somehow it starts to and then
reverts to the instance already running but sometimes you'll still get
the Splash Screen.  And, it's slow; not as slow as 7 was, but still
slow.
I'm surprised you didn't get good responses at cnews.corel.com.
Those folk are all pretty much experts and several of t hem are
professionals.  OTOH they're easy to PO if you said the wrong thing<g>.

Thanks Twayne, I rather thought that might be the situation.

Re the Corel groups, I always get great help there. That was true with
this query when I raised it too. But after following the suggestions,
including those at
http://campratty.com/1faq/faqpages/b3.html#anchor65788
I still had the issue. I'll just accept that PSP 8 can't do it.

But it's very puzzling that when using OpenExpert on a JPG to 'Open
With' PSP 8, it can take so long before it's up from a cold start. In
contrast, dragging the file into an already-open PSP gives an
effectively immediate display.
